The National Day of the PRC is a state holiday in China, celebrated annually on October 1st. The Chinese are a very patriotic people, so they celebrate the founding day of their country with simply incredible scope. This day is memorable for the Chinese people, as it is associated with the formation of the People’s Republic of China. The National Day of the PRC is a holiday not only for China, but also for the whole world. It serves as a reminder that China is a great country with a rich history and culture. In 2025, the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China will be celebrated.
The History of China’s National Day
The history of the holiday begins in 1927 when the Communist Party of China (CPC) was created. In 1931, the CPC began its struggle for the creation of an independent Chinese republic. In 1945, the communists won the civil war and established the Republic of China. However, in 1949, they proclaimed the People’s Republic of China, which became an independent state.
On October 1, 1949, the People’s Republic of China was proclaimed. On this day, the Constitution of the PRC was adopted, which established a new form of government—a socialist republic. Also on this day, the government of the PRC was formed, headed by Mao Zedong.
Since then, October 1st has become a state holiday in China. On this day, various events dedicated to the history of the PRC and its development take place. In cities, ceremonies of laying flowers at monuments to the People’s Republic of China are held, both at monuments to various figures and at memorials.

Celebrations for China’s National Day
As mentioned above, the Chinese are a very patriotic people who sincerely love their country. Therefore, this holiday is of great importance to the Chinese, as it reminds them of how much they have done for their country and people. On this day, people gather together to celebrate this holiday and honor the memory of those who participated in the creation of the PRC.
One of the main events on the National Day of the PRC is the laying of flowers at the monument to Mao Zedong. This is a symbol of respect for the leader who stood at the origins of the creation of the PRC. In addition, various cultural events take place on this day, such as concerts, exhibitions, and fairs.

Also, in absolutely all major cities, the government organizes a festive fireworks display, which draws residents from almost all neighboring settlements and villages to admire it. At the viewing platform, which is usually the embankment of some river, people stand like sprats in a jar, unable to move until the whole crowd shifts.

Of course, this is not the only opportunity to see a festive fireworks display on this day. Some enthusiasts sometimes organize their own fireworks, a “fireworks in the courtyard just for our own,” so to speak. It naturally won’t compare in scale to the central fireworks display, but it also holds enormous significance for ordinary people.
Also, on the National Day of the PRC, sports events are held that help people maintain their health and physical fitness. Many Chinese people go out into the streets to join mass festivities and dances.
Will there be a military parade on the National Day of the PRC in 2025?
The National Day of the PRC is so important to the residents of China that in importance it can only be compared with May 9th, a holiday valued and revered by every resident of Russia and the CIS countries. Just like on May 9th in Russia, military parades are held on the central square for the National Day of the PRC. The only difference is that in Russia the parade is held every year, while in China it is only for a milestone anniversary.
2025 is the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Usually, large military parades on the National Day of the PRC are held only in “round” jubilee years, such as the grand parade in 2019 for the 70th anniversary. Consequently, there will be no grand military parade on the National Day of the PRC in 2025.
However, on September 3, 2025, a grand military parade will take place in China to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World War against Fascism. During this solemn moment, many heads of state and leaders of different countries will come to China to take part in this grand celebration ceremony. The parade will take place on Beijing’s main square, Tiananmen. However, it will be quite difficult for an ordinary person to attend it even as a spectator. Fortunately, in the age of high technologies, it can be watched absolutely anywhere in the world.

Is it worth visiting China on October 1st?
This is quite a difficult question. Here, everything will likely depend on the preferences of the tourist himself. If a person likes the noise in the streets, crowds, and lively events, then they should definitely come to China at this time to experience what Chinese holiday festivities are like.
But if you are a person not very inclined towards such mass gatherings, the unequivocal answer would be no, you should not travel here. Firstly, because most places and shops will be closed for a whole week. The country rests for a whole week on this occasion, a period also popularly known as the “Golden Week,” and secondly, there will simply be an incredible number of people outside.
Yes, truly, very many; in some more crowded and iconic places, you won’t even be able to control your route because the crowd will be carrying you, and there is no way to break through it.
Also, before making such a decision, one should consider the prices, which can differ from non-holiday days during this period. For example, the prices for hotels and plane tickets almost double. And if you don’t plan your route in advance, literally two weeks before the holidays, there will simply be no tickets left.
